There were some nice surprises in attendance. It pays to get word out. Now if only my list were 10,000 people with those odds. Sigh.

I recorded the show. I haven't had a chance to listen to it or edit/archive it yet, but I'm realising something.
It *IS* a phenomenon that I don't play my best when recording. And alot of it isn't with the delivery, which is arguably improving (especially the voice). When I find myself off, I'm learning to get back on again sooner. But one thing that keeps happening is that I make a lot of stupid mistakes: inverted verses, forgotten chord progressions, forgotten lines, wrong harmonicas, and on and on. This has to be me psyching myself out.
Especially since I expect that this recording, as many of them previous have shown, will have me getting progressively more relaxed and "on" as I relax and the night goes on. This is another reason why I want longer sets/gigs. I can warm up on easy stuff and ease more into the showpieces as the night goes on.
The other answer is simply that I have to do it(record my sets) more often, and get more comfortable with the ear of posterity listening.

Thursday was also the live maiden voyage of my new mixing board, a Behringer Xenyx 1222 FX.

All in all, it was a little clunky at first, but it settled into a nice eclectic set, with good knowable stuff mixed very nice with the bizarre and obscure. I even sold a CD (despite playing very little traditional stuff).

But there is a dark cloud ahead about the December 21st show.
New Deal has booked a private party into the back room, which effectively cancels my show.
UNLESS....
They're willing to let me play with a smaller rig (or acoustically) in the front room again.
The manager said she'd talk to Richard McMullin (the booking guy) about this possibility.
I would like to sway their opinions too.
Here's what I need:

I need people who are thinking that they even *might* want to come on 12/21 to CALL THE NEW DEAL CAFE and Beg, plead, cajole, offer bribes, whatever, and ask them to move me to the front room for that night. This show is always a good one for me, as there are folks in town visiting family who don't usually get to come, as there are students who are sometimes far away and/or occupied on Thursdays, as there are people who are just plain too busy until the holidays slow their work down.
I'm willing to play with no amplification if that's what it takes.
The Cafe's phone number is 301 474 5642. Ask for the manager. Proceed with begging.
Tell her to tell Richard you called and asked.
And the show in question is Steve Haug, Thursday 12/21/2006.

If you're reading this. Please call them, even if you can't make it. The time that you *can* might be in the balance later if the Cafe doesn't get the message that >150 people have come to my shows even if it's rarely all at once.

I'll be sending this out to all my other lists soon. But thought I'd start here.
