Dagnabbit!!

We had practice last night for the St Patty's gigs and Jeremy was there. Apparently he and Rene have worked things out that he's joining us for this weekend at least.

But that's not the part that makes me go "Dagnabbit!" Apparently she HAS gotten thru to him that he needed to work/react with me differently. He was still a little snide, but when that didn't work,he started to actually work with me rather than against me. We actually managed to navigate thru some consistent rough spots in a couple of songs, and worked out more effective and INTERACTIVE parts. He didn't fight me on every single point I brought up, and let me play to my strengths while he played to his and refrained from the usual surprises and sabotage. There were a couple of songs that he needed chords for and he actually AGREED with me on one of my chord substitutions that I think sounds better than the chord that the melody theoretically calls for. (It's in "Whiskey In The Jar" and I'll geek it all out if someone's curious)
What's more, when time came that we discovered a couple of songs that needed a last minute emergency key change, he didn't question my transposing skills. Then eeven though he usually prefers not to capo, he went along with one of my capoing suggestions, embraced it even, because it was simpler and sounded better than what he wanted to do (which was hurting his hand).
And while he had SOME questions about what I was doing and when, he didn't spend the whole night second guessing every single note I played.

We worked together, solving timing glitches, getting agreement on chords, making our parts interact instead of clash, and giving each other necessary info and constructive criticism.

He didn't even talk down to me while we were brainstorming some sound/amplification issues.

And now I say "Dagnabbit! That's what I was HOPING for when I learned that he and I would be working together." He's a very competent musician, and a good guitar player with a great ear. His strengths and mine are not the same, but work very well when they interlock.

The results last night, sounded REAL REAL good!!!

If Rene changes her mind about him, I'm not gonna mind, as long as we get THIS version of Jeremy in the band and not the older version.
