Grrrrrrrr. Yesterday was supposed to be a really good day for [profile] patches023. She was supposed to be getting her car back, finally restoring our transportation infrastructure to what it was before the accident.
And she did, she got her car back, but was she happy? Noooo.
Why? Why wouldn't she be happy? Because part of what makes Sonya happy and the car a happy place is having the CD player/radio which also just acquired a jack to hook up the Ipod. Music makes the car a happy place.
And what did she find? The stereo, the happiest thing thing in the car was missing, and in it's place was not a CD player, but a tape deck. And it wasn't even hooked up.
This is NOT the way to make Sonya happy or to restore the car to being a happy place.

SOMEONE has tampered with the car. Our best guess is the towing company. They have several strikes of dishonesty against them, amongst which was a failed attempt to charge both the insurance company AND the garage for the towing.

The garage, bless them, has very kindly offered to replace the radio and eat the costs. But we're still going to file a police report. If it turns out to be fruitful, I want the garage to have someone to sue or charge for their costs. They don't deserve this either. In the meantime we have minimised our touching of the radio. I'm guessing that the person who did this was not your average "smash and grab" radio thief. They wanted this to fly under the radar and attempted to obscure the blame. I'm going to venture to guess that they have some experience in the world of crime. I'm also thinking that this stunt had a tinge of irrationality to it as well, and so am hoping that the thief thought of some things, but still didn't think this thru all the way. Thus it's conceivable that the (new) radio might have some fingerprints on it. If it does and the person whose prints it is has committed crimes and been caught before, there's a chance of a match being made,

If and when a match is made, Tiger tells me: "The bitings shall begin".

In the meantime, until the garage is ready to install the replacement, I shall find a way to get Music heard in the car. Sonya deserves the car to be a happy place again, and I will find a way to make it just so until it is properly fixed.

I suggest you tell the police to take the radio out and dust for prints. They might have wiped it down after installing it, but probably didn't think about the prints that are where you can't see them.

Yes, great idea. We have thought of that and are friends with a local police officer who should be able to help us by at least telling us the proper procedure and who to talk to.

We have minimized touching the radio, although in my disbelief I turned it on and off several times. {It wasn't hooked up 5 minutes ago, maybe it will work now. Nope, how about that.}

Keep us updated. I would love to hear a happy ending in this and someone getting their just desserts.

God, of all the definitions of "jerk"...

I hope karma gets to bite the one responsible around the same time as the Tiger does.

I commend the garage very much for their take on things, though.

Ipods can be played through a Jack that has a cassette thingy on the other end, which are at Walmart for like $5.00, to get you through until this is sorted out.

Unfortunately, the chances that the PG county police will devote time and energy to this are pretty much zero.

Let me know if you need a radio, a radio with aux input, a CD player, or anything like
that on short notice. I'll installed it too, if you like. I always have spare car audio gear.
