This beautiful and cool evening started out with a touch of snafoolery, when I surprised Jacqui with my arrival. Last Friday being the first of October, and the initially scheduled Thursday having been a 5th Thursday created a perfect storm of confusion as to when I was due next.
Fortunately no one else was scheduled in conflict and so, following a brief consultation of calendar books, all was well again, and another lovely night of playing and singing ensued.
I also discovered, to my mild chagrin that I'd left my recorder back at home on the desk, so no recordings of the set could be made.
No matter. An excellent set ensued featuring a bunch of songs I haven't gotten to play in a very long time, and there was still time for many of the current favourites. That's something I really like about this gig.
My favorite highlight of the night was the "Neil" trifecta. As some conversation on the patio rambled on about the night's dinner special, (described as "a tempting trifecta of sausages..." on the board) two simultaneous requests for Neil Diamond and Neil Young prompted a request to "Make that a tempting trifecta of Neils" So a brief head scratch yielded "Fly By Night" by Rush which has Neal Peart in the band. Close enough. Points were awarded for minstrelly resourcefulness.
Dinner was "Saucission", with the aforementioned tempting trifecta of sausages. I succumbed.
I just can't resist those tempting trifectas.
