Over on Facebook, a friend wrote a little post that inspired a short little story to just tumble out of my brain. Here it is:
Mike wrote: "I'd give my right arm to be ambidextrous", to which I replied:
---------------------------------------
..." he said as he pulled the fake arm out of his sleeve. The audience gasped at the intermittent spurts of fake blood and then a collective groan of horror washed thru them like a wave as the fingers continued moving on the arm, now resting on the little folding TV tray table on the stage. Mike grinned to himself, knowing that the two hours of extra work to make it do that were paying off.
Nobody in the audience but his assistant were looking at his other hand now, as he neatly palmed the little red ball up his sleeve, setting it up for the big finish when he would seem to extract it from the ear of a very horrified young volunteer who was standing on stage, trying to avoid the spurting and the growing puddles.
After the show, his assistant took Mike aside and said "You know, that's a *really* excessive diversion for such a low level illusion"
Mike's answer, as he mock courteously wiped the fake blood off of her nose with a multicolored handkerchief revolted her, as always:
"Suggestion *noted*".

Thanks Mike, and keep up the good work.
See you next year!
