Trying, expensive weekend.
Monday, 5 June 2006 12:58But things are turning out ok in the end.
Rhianon at VaRenfest: this is not quite what I signed up for. The Fest is still small. The gig is unpaid and we play for tips. A four person group at a small faire- my share added up to 5 whole dollars.
This coupled with a 1 1/2 hour drive in my van, and I got a speeding ticket on I95.
Not my most profitable week.
But all in all it's a nice Faire. I like it. It's just not profitable to me yet, and it's a LONG way to drive for a pseudo free gig.
It had one very nice point tho. The energy there does work in it's own way. I found myself looking with longing at this gal selling roses, and wanted an opportunity to at least make a good impression (but had no cash to spend on roses). Well just as I was thinking this, she walked by, all smiles and what should happen, but one of her roses practically LEAPs out of the basket just out of her sight. Thank You Helpful Elves! I got to chase her down and make a big deal of presenting her with the very rose she dropped, on bended knee and everything. Yep. Life was good for that minute.
And it got even better on Saturday Night. I arrived pretty late, (long drive- Spotsylvania to York) but got to attend the Kubiando Ball at Spoutwood Farm- their "Thank You" party for volunteers and perfomers. Lots of hugs and some good food (just enough left for me) and some of my favorite people. I got to thank them again on behalf of MDFF for treating us like family. And I thanked Rob Wood personally for that as well and almost started bawling when he said "You earned it with what's in your heart, man." Sniff. Now I am crying.
I even got to give some impromptu harmonica and guitar pointers to a very sweet gal whom I've had my eye on for some time.
Next week will be better but even more hectic. Rhianon has a paying gig at Auld Shebeen on Friday and on Saturday we play VaRF again. This time I have secured permission to do some busking myself, which, now that I have a feel for the place, ought to work out a little better.
Then on Sunday I'll play at the Western PA Fairie Fest. That's also gonna be quite a haul, but at least I'm being paid something for it, and I'll also be busking on familiar territory with energy I'm more likely to be able read (Faeries & Cooper's Lake)
My computer died most ignominously last week, but again, all thanks and praise are to be bestowed on
jmax315 He came over on Sunday and very quickly found a memory problem.
He had a 1/3 chance of grabbing the right board and he won the prize. He yanked it out and ta-da! The machine acted healed. I'm now operating with 1/3 less ram capacity than I had, but what's operating is functional. And I do believe that I can really tell the difference.
We went to a very pleasant birthday party last night for the daughter of one of the MDFF committee. Had some good rehashy-type talk and some pre-MDFF07 schmoozing.
And then this morning, I got to hear from a dear friend who I see every year at Pennsic whom I've had a crush on for over a decade. Right out of the blue.
Last week was sure a rough one, but this kind of ending sure takes the sting out of it.
I'm really close to really believing that as soon as I'm making a decent amount of money, my life will be truly perfect.
