SNAFU!

I was just in a foul mood yesterday after being presented with the option of booking someone to the MDFF who had, in the past, treated me very unfairly and very badly.

I have not yet made up my mind if I will, but I'm leaning towards "They make amends to me, and THEN I book them." Yes, it's a trifle small of me, but I didn't deserve what I got, and I want to feel good about the people I book for a festival that's supposed to "prime the positive energy pump". I need to know that if I've grown up enough to forgive, that they've grown up enough to apologise.

I also for assorted reasons, felt singularly unmotivated to take the 2+ hours it would have taken this week to notify everyone about my 2nd gig with Rhianon. Turns out that I wasn't just feeling lethargy or disappointment that nobody came to the last one, but I was having a true precognitive energy drain.
It started when I was given the date for the gig, Saturday, Jan 15th. This rang some bells. Sat the 14th was my birthday, and Sunday, while the 15th, was not a Saturday. I asked for clarification, and Renee said, finally, that we were confirmed for Sunday, but something just wasn't adding up. The Rhianon website was corrected, but when we played New Years Eve, the sign on the door at Auld Shebeen said "Rhianon Sat 1/15".

Well, we got there last night and found another band setting up on stage. They were willing to split the evening with us, but the manager was not willing to pay two bands and asked why his phone calls yesterday when he had NO band went unanswered. I don't know about that. Renee said no one called her, which is plausible given that the bar managers I've known have often been very oblivious to their own schedules (as anyone who's seen the assorted Snafus at New Deal has witnessed) This was further complicated by the fact that it was an agency that booked us for the bar, adding layers to the potential Snafus. Did the manager call Renee, or the agency contact?
Our contract says "January 15th", but I suspect it also says Saturday.

It wound up that the gig was cancelled and the bar comped Sonya's tea and Jeremy's Irish Coffee. So we packed up and all went out to dinner, which Renee kindly picked up the tab for. The Snafu was to be resolved later.

As of today at 10:00am, my next two gigs with Rhianon will be *Saturday* Feb 11th and *Saturday* Feb 18th. So apparently we're still in good graces, which is a good sign.

On a completely different note, did anyone watch the season premiere of "24" last night? Am I the only one who noticed that when Jack put on the FBI jacket, that the soundtrack took on a very blatant borrowing of riffs from "The X-Files"? It felt nice to hear such music on a Sunday night again, which is probably what the composer intended.

And it was an interesting closing to the evening to hear the X-Files music when my bad mood turned out to be a combination of disgruntlement and pre-cognitive disappointment.
