Good, but foggy day yesterday, but today...
Wednesday, 11 October 2006 13:01Today, Our President makes me want to throw things at the TV.
He talks about the Enemy of our Country who wants to take over the world and set up a "Caliphate" which is his code word for "Religious Dictatorship".
But this Enemy is no different than HE is!
...on and on he went, describing an enemy and an agenda that could easily be his own.
Is he really that blind, in that much denial, or is he really that coldly Evil?
(probably 50/50)
Either way, this filth needs to be purged from our nation's leadership.
At the very least I want a president who knows how to fucking pronounce "NU CLE AR"!!!!!!!
OTOH, even tho yesterday was a day that I seemed to be able to get precious little done, it was a good day.
One of the highlights was at 3LF practice when
keithm043 came by with a pile o' LPs to give away for a friend.
Often these piles are some parent's collection, filled with Gospel, and Muzak. And there was definitely some Gospel in there, but... there were some interesting finds as well:
-Four (4!!!!) Gordon Lightfoot albums that I didn't posess!
-The very rare (I've never even heard of it) 2nd Starland Vocal Band album Late Night Radio which I snagged because it had the song "3rd Rate Romance" which I've always gotten a chuckle from. Turns out that they hadn't wrote it but covered it (which I suspected) but the way cool surprise is that their version has a positively brilliant faux horn section part done by the band on....
....kazoos!! Kazoo parts usually wallow in their cheeziness and are humorous enough that they "pass" musically. But This, as I said, was just brilliant. It's a little 'pitchy' at first, but then it all comes together and works just as smooth and funky as a real horn section, easily as intricate as the best of them -except it's kazoos! It's a rare treat indeed that a 70's lightweight pop band impresses me musically. I grabbed the album for the one song I liked and it's value as a a rarity. I'm Keeping it for this!
Duh. Now I remember. "3rd Rate Romance" was originally done by The Amazing Rhythm Aces. Did I mention I've been feeling foggy lately?
-Other highlights included some albums by Melanie that I didn't have, and some bits and pieces that fill in some gaps, some more lightweight 70's pop that I happened to like when I was young, but then I found the real jewel. It was very unlike the rest of the collection. I speculate that this was a family collection and that this one album belonged to the "black sheep". Anyway it was
- Elegy by The Nice.
Yum. A young and already brilliant Keith Emerson in the legendary band that preceded ELP. At that time, this album had what were up to then, unreleased recordings. I think some of it surfaced again on the Anthology that I picked up that introduced me to the band, but still, this album is a jewel and an uncommon one at that.
Thanks, Keith. Today, YOU'RE The Man!!!

Sorry
sensualquills, but there was no Guess Who. But you should know that I am thinking of you as I work the LP mines, and if I find any, they'll be headed your way.
Despite severe Gremlinage and head fog, I did some more cleaning done yesterday, and in the fog (which was apparently widespread) wound up having to move my voice lesson.
And, it would seem, I've been propositioned for a date on Friday.
Not too shabby.
