Setlists and other news
Monday, 9 January 2006 09:57The past almost week has been just so non-stop that I haven't had time to catch up on my own posting.
(Hey! No cheering from you short attention spanners!)
Anyway:
My New Deal gig last Thursday went well. We had what looked like a light attendance, but it turns out that there were three people there whom I didn't know. (but they knew me) (almost)Strangers coming to hear *me* play!- nice omen. Sold a CD to one of them.
I did two things new and different. The "request things you've never asked for" thing was kinda mixed since almost half the audience was there for their first time. Nonetheless some fun songs that I haven't had much of a chance to showcase came up- like "Battleship Chains" and "Dirty Old Egg-Sucking Dog"
I've also started a contest. It has to do with a "mystery" song. There is a song that is in my repertoire for no other reason than I had this album when I was young that is a bit of a guilty pleasure for me. I got it before I developed any of what most people really know as my "taste" in music. You wouldn't expect me to like the song that this album is known for- or to like this album as much as I do. What's more the song is COMPLETELY different from the sound and style of the rest of that album, and now fits in perfectly with alot of the other songs in my repertoire. You have to come to one of my gigs to hear me play it. BUT if you come and hear this song and can tell me:
-what album I got it from
-the name of the artist (and hence, what they are "really" known for)
THEN YOU WIN A COPY OF _PATCHES_ (my CD)
Oh, and what really sucks about this contest, is that Google *will* tell you what album it's from (but only left handedly) if you put in the title, which I will not divulge- but the song title is not contained in the lyrics. AND so far, my feeding Google random snippets of the lyrics have FAILED to come back with it. So go ahead, bring your wireless laptop to New Deal Cafe and try your best. I'm fairly sure that you will NOT win this contest with an online search engine.
