I WILL punch you in the mouth!!

This is a rant, and it's not directed at anybody I personally know (and hopefully it won't happen),
but I just want to get this out on the record.
I've been getting back lately into reading and following links in
twistedchick's journal and as I feared, some of the stuff she links to is pretty damn upsetting.
Our way of life in this country truly is under siege from a segment of our population who wants to set up a Christain Theocracy, and they, by co-opting the right wing agenda have succeeded on a scale that alot of people don't realise. This may be the last gasp of the far right that could very well be finally snuffed out, but there is ALOT of money that is being spent, and A HELL OF A LOT OF GROUND THAT HAS BEEN LOST.
Read the interview with Michelle Goldberg and shudder.
But Christian Nationalism is not what I'm ranting about here. What I'm ranting about is a belief that has informed some of these nutjobs and it's been around for awhile.
It's called the "Two Seed Theory" or some such.
This (Christian) ideology holds that the non-white races are not the sons of Adam as the Bible implies, but that they are the bastard descendants of Satan with Eve. Thus there are two human races in the world, one inherently good (the white, esp the Aryan Race) and one inherently Evil (the other races).
I have never in my life actually read of a more repulsive, divisive, and EVIL ideology, never.
And I just want to go on record about something.
I'm a tolerant guy. If you want to believe in something freaky and different and call it God, that's your business. Whatever floats your boats. It's not my habit to tell someone that they are wrong on a religious matter. I'll say why it is I disagree, and hopefully we can leave it at that.
My personal leaning is towards a loving and functional Divinity, and thankfully, while we disagree alot on the specifics, the vast overwhelming majority of my friends agree that God (who ever He or She is or is called) loves Us.
But this. This goes to far. To call people Evil, to essentially justify doing Evil acts towards entire classes of people is pretty bad. To say that they are inherently Evil and SPAWNED of Evil.
No no no no no.
I'm telling this, out loud, in English, uncensored to the WORLD:
If ANYONE ever speaks, spouts, says, or expresses this crap around me,
If you are making any type of attempt to convince someone that this is true in my presence,
whether it's spoken word or leaflets, or websites or a song on an Ipod.
I don't care how. If you express this opinion-
I WILL PUNCH YOU IN THE MOUTH!
Yes this is America, and you have the right to say what you will.
Yes, it is against the law to assault someone, and if prosecuted, I will PROUDLY pay the price.
But remember this: Laws work because they are social compacts, and not actual restraints.
I can and will violate this social compact and HURT YOU if you spout this filth in my presence.
I'm drawing this line here and now.
(oh, and just because someone will want to nitpick: I don't mean that you will be punched if you happen to be talking about this stuff in an informational context. You know and I know that what I mean is that if I catch you for one micro second saying that this has an validity or that anybody should truly believe this as fact- ok?)
but I just want to get this out on the record.

2006-10-16 16:39 (UTC)And the infuriating thing for me is this:
When I embraced my Pagan side, I took alot of my Christian beliefs with me, especially the parts about how we need to treat people. So it's not like I don't know about Christianity or what it means to be a Christian.
I do. And I take that benchmark and I compare it to the actions of our leaders and the Right wing who repeatedly say that they are informed by Christian values and nearly every time I do, a game show style buzzer goes off in my head, indicating that their deeds vs words are "incorrect".
And HOW they are incorrect and WHERE they are incorrect says alot about the type of Christians and Christianity that seems to actually be informing their actions. The actions of our Government are a whole lot more in tune with White Supremacy than they are with what so many of my Christian friends would cite as their values.
Why are they allowed to continue. Whose consent and whose votes do these people have?
Real Christians(tm) need to start taking a much more diligent note of this. I know alot of Christians who will protest that these brats do not speak for "Real Christians". And yet, somehow they get away with saying they do without challenge, on TV even. And yet somehow they have been put into elected positions. And when you check to see *who* elected them, I'll bet you a dollar that it was not Pagans, Muslims, Hindus, Atheists, or the Followers of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
It is inevitably people calling themselves Christian who are doing all these things that even my Christian friends say that they hate. And somehow they get elected on what are called "Christian Friendly" platforms.
These bastards need to be challenged, and they need to be voted out and shouted down in our public forums, and that opposition NEEDS to come alot more from the people whom they claim to represent. People like me will always be dismissed as having an "axe to grind" with Christianity (even tho I can co-exist with Christian neighbors just fine and don't even mind too much that I live right on the doorstep of a church) It's Christians who NEED to be speaking up about the Domininionist Movement and challenging it's relevance in an egalitarian country.
And sadly, that's only happening in dribs and drabs.
So thank you for stating that this in not YOUR Christianity. (It means alot to me to count you as Friend) Do yourself and the world a favor and encourage as many Christians as you can to do the same.

2006-10-18 22:40 (UTC)I would cheerfully bite the nipples off a pseudo-Christian in a heartbeat if someone restrains them. Not really. but it'a nice thought. I would think twice. :)
