Week looking up after all...
Tuesday, 24 October 2006 12:24Some very nice things happened this week that will go a very long way to allieviating my latent grumpiness:
1) My final check from the Clipper City brunch gigs arrived. I was *so* right to be understanding about the mixup last year (where my final check took them several months to get to me). There really was a bad situation last year but they really DO value me and they seem to have fixed the problem. I'm even more sure of this now because:
2) I got called back by Doug from Clipper City and he offered me a gig TODAY as part of a corporate charter they've booked. I get to play for some suits after a big meeting at the B'more Convention Center. Polish up the Jimmy Buffet and turn on my "smart missile" target detector and I'll be golden. I'm really liking the relationship I'm building with the Clipper City folks.
( what's a 'smart missile' target dectector? )
3) This morning,
patches023 forgot her work badge, and so I wound up taking it to her at the Metro. It was annoying to not get to sleep in after all, but then I got the "Good Karma with the Helpful Elves " payback.
Lately I've been thwarted lately in my efforts to upgrade the CD/stereo system in my van. The radio that I was *hoping* to install (the old one from the car) is missing it's faceplate somehow. And my current CD player recently decided to drastically reduce it's output to the point where it's not audible at highway speed noise levels. However, that same CD player (a little walkman that I plug into an amp/EQ for boosting) leapt out at me this morning and as I picked it up to put it away I just happened to notice that there was a switch on the back that said "Limit" and it was, in fact switched to select "Limit".
....."Nooo" I said to myself. "Is it really gonna be *this* easy?"
I LOVE happy endings even if they involve simple, stupid solutions to problems I couldn't diagnose because I just couldn't/didn't see them. So now, I have music in my van again.
And while I've been searching for fixes or upgrades, I've been re-burning my 'van copies' of music to keep in the van, and adding to it as well. I was worried I'd reach critical mass and have nothing to play them in. Now I have incentive to finish up the first pile and resume the expansion.
Anyway, time to start getting ready.
I'll be missing my voice lesson, and possibly be late for 3LF practice, but having "work" as an excuse totally won't suck this time.
